Opening activity

I read the article about how Brazil is sending 75,000 students to the worlds best colleges. Students in Brazil are finally getting incentive to visit other countries, such as the U.S., and wherever the top colleges are, because of a government program to give 75,000 students scholarships to the best colleges in the world. These scholarships are only available to those studying subjects of strategic national importance. This is a long overdue agenda, not just in Brazil, but in all of Latin America.

The article I read was about how the fans let the Vikings have it after another second half collapse. I am not personally a fan of the Vikings and never really have been. They aren't really that great of a team anymore and so people are always complaining about it. If they want to be a better team they really ought to work even harder or change some people around.

The Jonesboro shooting was a school shooting that occurred on March 24, 1998 in Westside Middle School. A total of five people were killed. The perpetrators were two students, Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden. Nobody knows why they did it whther or not it was due to all the violence in movies or T.V. or if it was because school shootings were so common in the 1990's.

Opening activity (Newsmap)

The article I read was about Arian Foster returning to practice on wednesday. Three weeks ago, Arian Foster aggravated his hamstring injury during a preseason game, but now has returned to practice as of Wednesday. He's fully on track to play the Dolphins this weekend. I myself am a Texan fan so to here that the leading rusher is back playing again is great. I'm not to sure though if three weeks is enough time to recover something like that, it'll probably be injured again soon before you know it. This article is about human interests.

Opening activity

The article I read was about how airlines plan on reducing flight next year. I think it's an okay idea, mainly because of the high price of fuel and how terrible the economy is right now. It's also a good idea to match the number of seats with the number of people who buy them. I think people can stand to fly 2 to 3 percent less because with this economy people don't want to buy plane tickets just like the airlines not wanting to buy fuel. I'm sure if the economy picks up again airlines will probably be flying more again, just because it's easier to buy fuel when you have and make more money. I didn't realize that airlines made most of their money in summer months and struggled the rest of the year. I guess it makes sense though because even in the bad shape that the economy is in, a lot of people still go on vacations over the summer. Overall, I think it's a good idea, because it's not like planes won't be flying at all, just less to save more money.

Opening activity

This article is about how Google+ has now added games. I find it interesting that Google is trying to take more fame to name by making it's own social netwrok when it's one of the biggest, if not the biggest search engine used, not to mention it's now got it's own browser as well. I think the fact that they added games is a good idea to attract more business because it's a big part of Facebook and other social networks to incorporate games into the equation. I think the fact that Facebook has been trying to update the way games work after Google+ added them is a good sign of success for Google. If you're competing with a beast of that power such as facebook you're probably on the right track. As far as Google+ goes, I think it could become the next bigger thing, even though I doubt any workers of Google really need the extra money. The social gaming factor is huge with social networks, so I think Google+ just took a big step forward in becoming something big.

Opening activity

The 9/11 article I read about was the one on Startribune.com. This article was about all different faiths and religions coming together to remember 9/11. Starting with a ballet right outside the state capitol, and went on to Sheila Ray Charles to  sing "America the beautiful.". From the capitol to a Brooklyn center Mosque and an Eden Prarie megachurch people took time to reflect about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There were plenty of ways people were remembering 9/11, whether it was the ballet or the singing, or Al Franken reading the pledge of Allegiance, everyone came together to remember.

Opening activity

The article I read was about U.S. officials chasing the unconfirmed al-Qaida car bomb plot in either New York or Washington. Counterterrorism officials were chasing an unconfirmed but credible al-Qaida threat to use a car bomb on bridges or tunnels somewhere in either New York or Washington. It was the first "active plot" that would coincide with the commemoration of al-Qaida's 9/11 attacks which occured a decade ago. The offiials were investigating the threat Thursday night and into Friday morning. New York and Washington have stepped up it's police staff because of these threats.
Intelligence has shown that the car bombers were planning a bomb one of two cities that were hit a decade ago.

Kstp article

I read the article about the plane crash in Russia. President Dmitry Medvedev Made immediate changes for Russia's troubled aviation industry on thursday after a plane crashed on wednesday, killing 43 people, 36 of them being players for the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. Investigators could not immediately find what caused the aircraft (Yak-42) to crash. Workers worked on thursday to remove the shattered tail section.

Partner interview

My partner was Willie Stephenson. You may know plenty of things about Willie Stephenson, but what a lot of people don't know is that Willie Stephenson is that Willie Stephenson is actually Willie Stephenson Jr. Now, that may come as a surprise to some of you, but one thing that is clearly obvious to most people is his love for cars. When asked what the best day of his life was, it was clear that the first thing to pop into his head was;"The day I went to the auto show.". Another car related answer flew into my notes when he was asked about something he could do that no one else could. His response was very confident;"I can tell the make and model of a car, just by appearance.".

Now, when I asked him about his worst day ever, he told me about his worst days ever. The week of school he missed because of how sick he was. Now, I'm sure the fact that he missed school wasn't the main issue but it sounds like he was pretty, awfully, sick. Identifying the make and model of a car may be his best talent, but that doesn't mean it's his only talent. When I asked him what an average talent he had was, he stated that he had some talent working with computers. You may think you know everything about Willie, but there's a lot more to him than you think.
