Ruby Bridges is known as the first African-American to attend an all white elementary school in the south. She grew up during the late 1950's and 1960's, During the time when integration was starting to become a major deal, but she grew up in the south so it was pretty tough at that time. When she was six years oold in 1960, she became the first African-American child to attend an all white elementary school, and in 1999 she became the chair and founder of the Ruby Bridges foundation to promote "The values of tolerence, respect, and appreciation towards all differences."
